Sample Packs:
Not all sample packs come with the same usage and distribution rights. While many established libraries, such as Splice, Looperman, and LANDR’s sample library, offer samples with clear royalty-free licensing terms, other sources may have different restrictions.
To ensure that your samples are cleared to be used in a commercial release, we need to make sure you have all the rights. You may be asked to provide documentation showing that the samples are properly licensed for your intended use.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when using samples:
- Know where each sample came from.
- Review the sample pack’s licensing terms.
- Confirm that commercial use and monetization are permitted.
- Be prepared to provide proof of usage rights if requested by LANDR.
- This could include a certificate of content, a sample license agreement, or proof of purchase or subscription
Uncleared Samples
Using samples from already-existing songs, films, television shows, news broadcasts, video games, etc. requires licensing from the original content owner.
Sample Clearance Documentation
- Licenses, contracts, or written permission: Should clearly demonstrate that you have permission from the sample’s creator or rights holder to use the sample commercially and distribute your music.
- Proof of purchase: A receipt, license certificate, or order confirmation can show where the sample came from and how it was obtained should be provided alongside the contract
- Uploading documentation: You can provide this documentation in the proof of rights section of your release.
Not sure if it’s sufficient? Submit what you have, and LANDR will let you know if additional documentation is needed.
I don’t have a license or permission to use my samples
Sample clearance is typically administered by the publisher of the original recording. You can search the databases below to find the publisher of a song and their contact information to get the process started:
You can also look into the services offered by Tracklib for seeking licenses on your behalf.
