Yes, you can release remixes, sample-based tracks, or mashups through LANDR, but you must provide proof of rights for all third-party content involved. This ensures your release complies with copyright laws and avoids potential disputes with rights holders.
What is proof of rights?
Proof of rights is documentation that verifies you have obtained the necessary permissions to use copyrighted material in your release. This protects you from copyright claims and ensures streaming platforms can safely distribute your track.
What documentation is required?
Your proof of rights should include a license agreement or written permission from the original content owner. This documentation must meet the following criteria:
- Be provided in PDF format
- Include the names of the licensor (rights holder) and licensee (you or your label)
- Clearly state the title of the work being licensed
- Specify the duration of the agreement (e.g., perpetual, one year, etc.)
- Outline the rights granted, including:
-
Digital sales / permanent downloads
Monetized streaming
-
Digital sales / permanent downloads
If the agreement has additional terms, such as requiring producer credit in the metadata, these conditions must also be followed.
Examples of content that requires proof of rights
- Remixes: Written permission or a remix license from the original artist or rights holder.
- Sample-Based Tracks: Documentation confirming you’ve licensed the sample for commercial use.
- Mashups: Rights clearances for every track included in the mashup.
Note that remixes and mashups are different from covers. You can read more about the differences here.

Important notes
- “Free for profit” beats (commonly found on YouTube) still require proof of licensing.
- Failure to provide proof of rights may result in your release being rejected or delayed.
How to submit proof of rights
When submitting your release via LANDR Distribution, include your license agreement as part of the submission. Providing this documentation upfront speeds up the review process and helps ensure your music goes live without delays.
