To have one of your tracks featured in a Spotify editorial playlist, you must pitch the song to Spotify’s editorial team using their playlist pitch form. In order for Spotify to consider your song, it must already be delivered to their system through LANDR Distribution, but you must submit your playlist pitch at least 7 days before your song’s release date.
What are the steps for pitching to Spotify editorial playlists?
-
Prepare and submit your release to LANDR Distribution
- Set a custom release date that is at least 2-3 weeks in the future
- Wait for your release to be approved by LANDR and delivered to Spotify
- When your release is delivered to Spotify’s system, submit your pitch at least 7 days before your release date:
- Log in to your Spotify for Artists account
- At the top of your Home section, select PITCH FROM NEXT RELEASE, or pitch from the Music tab under Upcoming
- Choose a song, fill out the pitch form, and submit
How do I increase my chances of getting on a Spotify editorial playlist?
Spotify’s editorial team wants to know as much as possible about the music you submit for consideration, and they also want an accurate indication of its genre and style. Select only the most accurate options when determining your song’s genre, culture, mood, instruments, etc. You should also write a detailed and thorough description that gives a full picture of the song’s meaning and strengths.
Within the character limit they provide, explain the creative process behind the song, its personal meaning to you, your influences, the music scene it emerged from, and any other information that will help your song stand out as a work of art. You should also give details on how you plan to promote it, from social media to video content and more. The more fully developed your pitch is, and the more effort you put into it, the better your chances will be.
And of course, you should only pitch your strongest tracks. We recommend getting input from friends and fellow producers on which of your songs has the best potential to do well on editorial playlists — it may not be the one you think!
