What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a multi-step account login process that requires you to enter a one-time code in addition to your password, making it more difficult for unauthorized individuals to gain access to your account.
What methods of two-factor authentication are available?
Email and authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator).
How does two-factor authentication with email work?
When you log in, after entering your username and password, you'll receive a verification code sent to the email address you chose as a two-factor authentication destination email. You need to enter this code on the login screen to complete the authentication process.
What should I do if I don't receive the email verification code?
- Check your spam or junk folder: Sometimes, emails might be filtered there.
- Verify your email address: Ensure that the email address associated with your account is correct and up-to-date.
- Request a new code: If you still haven’t received it, request a new verification code.
- Contact support: If the issue persists, reach out to customer support for assistance.
How does two-factor authentication with an authenticator app work?
An authenticator app generates a time-based one-time password (TOTP) that changes every 30 seconds. After entering your username and password, you open the authenticator app, retrieve the current code, and enter it on the login screen.
Can I use both email and an authenticator app for two-factor authentication?
Yes.
How do I set up two-factor authentication for my account?
- Log in to your account and navigate to the security settings under your account settings.
- Select the option to enable two-factor authentication.
- Choose the methods you want to use (email or authenticator app).
- Follow the instructions to complete the setup, including verifying your email or scanning a QR code with the authenticator app.
- Save your recovery codes in a safe place.
Is 2FA necessary?
While not strictly necessary, two-factor authentication significantly improves your account security by adding an extra layer of protection. It is highly recommended to use two-factor authentication to protect your account from unauthorized access.
Can I disable 2FA once it’s set up?
Yes. However, it’s advisable to keep two-factor authentication enabled to ensure your account remains as secure as possible.
To disable two-factor authentication:
- Log in to your account and navigate to the security settings under your account settings.
- Select the option to enable two-factor authentication.
- Choose the methods you want to disable (email or authenticator app), by clicking the bin icon.
- Follow the instructions to disable the method, requiring to input a code sent to your email if your are disabling your email method, or the current code from your authenticator app if you are disabling your authenticator app method.
What if I lose access to my email or authenticator app?
- Use recovery codes: If you have your recovery codes on hand, use one to log in. Note that when you use a recovery code to disable two-factor authentication, it removes all the two-factor authentication methods on your account. If you wish to keep two-factor authentication enabled on your account, you will have to go through the initial setup steps again.
- Contact support: If you’re unable to access your authenticator app and your recovery codes, contact customer support for help with recovery options.
