Why do I need to enter my full legal name?

Streaming platforms like Spotify now require that an artist's full legal name be entered when submitting a release in order to be recognized by publishers.

You will need to enter your full legal name in the Composer and Lyricists fields when building your release.

Rest assured that your legal name won't be front and center as an artist name. Instead, it will be visible to listeners when they explore the credits or lyrics of a song.

Here is an example of what those credits look like on Spotify:

The artist names are written under 'Performed by' and their full legal names appear under 'Written by'.

To view credits on Spotify, simply hover over the track, click on the 3 dots on the far right hand side and click on 'Show credits'.

*Please note that when the Classical genre is selected, Spotify will display the ‘Composer’, ‘Conductor’, ‘Orchestra’ as a main artists.
